Born in 1966, in Sussex, Henrietta Dubrey grew up at the foot of the South Downs.
She studied at Wimbledon School of Art and the Royal Academy Schools in London, finishing her studies in 1992 after which she moved to Normandy in Northern France for 5 years, painting and starting a family.
Because of childhood holidays in Cornwall she was then drawn to live in St Ives, with its rich artistic heritage and, in particular, the middle-generation artists such as Roger Hilton and Terry Frost. She now lives and works just outside St Just in west Penwith, Cornwall, near the westernmost tip of England.
Working in both the figurative and abstract genres she thrives on the diversity that such a discipline provides. Her abstract canvases use bold lines and colour to communicate space and physicality. Spontaneity and gesture are also an important feature in both styles of painting.
